@LJPUK I feel your pain! I made the mistake of letting Apple Music ‘handle’ my local music library, and it was only when I decided to cut the cord that I discovered just how much of that local music had been converted (often badly) into Apple Music clone tracks. 💢

@numericcitizen True, but it would be even sweeter if some platforms & services were more forthcoming in letting you get to that stage. And I trusted that they’d actually delete data.

@adders Could be worse…. they could have done the survey on Facebook. 🙄

@patrickrhone I’m thinking of WOPR’s verdict at the end of Wargames… the only winning move is not to play.

Different game, in this case (and it’s definitely a game for those in power), but perhaps it’s time to say “nah” and make a new government of the people, by the people, for the people?

@BenSouthwood I’m in the process of thinning out my wishlists there and looking at alternative sources for books and particularly ebooks. (Yes, I could break the DRM, but not on all of the Kindle titles I own.)

@Mtt Vivaldi on both macOS and iOS. What I like is that it’s feature-packed but you can turn off the features you don’t need, and rearrange things so they’re easier to reach and use.

@numericcitizen I get that, it’s another inbox to tend to (and pay for). I’m using Obsidian now plus the official web clipper, but I still need to make stub notes to help me link stuff together.

@JohnPhilpin WhatsApp seems to have taken most of that market now. My Mum uses it to call her relations in Italy.

I can remember how big a deal Skype was back in the 2000s, but it had a target on its back from the start. In the end, Microsoft killed it rather than the telcos.

@amerpie Thanks for pointing out RapiDMG — I can’t believe I’m been handling DMG installers by hand for so long!

@adders Yes, I know. (Slashdot users frequently slid in links to That Page in comments for the lolz back in the day, to catch out the unwary and those viewing the site at their workplace…)
